Individual And Group Therapy For Addiction in San Diego

At Right Path Rehab, we employ group and individual therapy sessions to help you confront the thoughts and behaviors that contribute to your addiction. Group therapy provides social support and lets you hear from others who struggle with the same issues. In individual therapy, you have an opportunity to focus on your specific issues in detail.

Understanding how the setting, content, and goals of group and individual therapy are different can be helpful as you progress in your journey toward addiction recovery.

Substance Abuse Group Therapy: Strength in Community

Support from your peers can have a major influence on your recovery success, which is why we include group therapy in our San Diego addiction treatment programs at Right Path Rehab. We want to provide a sense of supportive community during the course of your recovery journey.

Group therapy allows you to learn from your peers who are going through and have been through many of the same experiences as you. Sharing your thoughts and feelings can help you heal and strengthen your recovery, and it’s often easier to relate to your peers than to others who may not have the same experience. You can also be inspired by hearing others tell their stories of addiction.

At Right Path Rehab, we value individuality within the community. By creating a safe space for you and others, we allow you to build trust while sharing your stories. The companionship of having someone who understands your struggles will help you as you progress through your individual treatment journey. One of the greatest benefits you experience from group therapy is the healing power of trust. Opening your heart up to others can be intimidating, but it’s one of the most fundamental skills you develop and take with you after treatment.

Individual Therapy: An Opportunity To Talk Freely

In one-on-one treatment, you have an opportunity to discuss your individual issues and talk about things you may be uncomfortable addressing in a group setting. This therapy is an important part of your treatment plan because it digs into the root causes of your addiction. It’s a time when sensitive subjects are discussed, such as traumatic events from your past.

In individual therapy, what you tell the therapist is confidential. You’re able to talk freely and receive feedback that can help you solve problems and gain a new perspective. Individual sessions also give you a chance to talk more about what you heard in group therapy, so you can learn more about what you heard there.

There are four major benefits of individual therapy:

  • You learn to understand yourself better. One of your therapist’s main goals is to help you see the roots of your addiction and how it affects your physical and mental health.
  • You discover your triggers. Understanding why you use drugs is an important step in learning how to stop using them.
  • You learn mindfulness techniques. This teaches you how to “live in the moment” and not let negative thoughts or situations trigger your substance abuse.
  • You learn how to communicate better. One-on-one sessions with a therapist can help you be more comfortable talking to others again after recovering from your addiction.
